Views expressed

All views and opinions expressed by platform members are their own, and do not necessarily represent the views and opinions of English Habitat. English Habitat publishes a wide variety of opinions and hosts open discussions without being liable for what its members say or imply, including false facts, errors, or controversial opinions.

Fair use

English language content and materials published on English Habitat, in their varied forms, make use of a wide range of source materials. The legal basis for using these include: own creation; public domain; used with permission; Creative Commons; and fair use and similar limitations to copyright.

Given the volume of material on English Habitat, it is possible some things inadvertently slip through that don’t fit into any of the categories above, and that in fact violate copyright. If you suspect a copyright violation, you should notify English Habitat. English Habitat endeavours to expeditiously remove or disable access to content it hosts when it is notified of an alleged copyright infringement.

Intellectual property

The platform and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by English Habitat, and are protected by international intellectual property and proprietary rights laws. Logos and all other branding elements are registered trademarks. Text, designs, graphics, data, layouts, and images are protected by copyright, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

All content available on English Habitat is for personal use. There are restrictions on the amount of content that can be accessed within a 24-hour period. Commercial use is not permitted without the express written permission of English Habitat.

Some content published on the platform is licenced under an Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (BY-NC-SA) Creative Commons licence. This license permits you to remix, tweak, and build upon the work non-commercially, as long as you credit English Habitat, and license your new creations under the identical terms (view the license deed; view the legal code).

All content created by English Habitat members and hosted on the platform belongs to English Habitat. English Habitat has the right to make alterations to this content, and to transfer intellectual property rights to third parties without compensation.

The practice of web scraping to extract data from the English Habitat website is strictly prohibited. The use of bots, scripts, or other forms of automated access to the platform’s contents are strictly prohibited.

It is prohibited to use English Habitat contents, whatever the license, and/or any modified or derived version of the contents to develop directly or indirectly a competing service.

Confidentiality

Participation in the English Habitat platform involves the collection and retention of some of your personal information. The Privacy Policy sets out how your private information is collected, used, protected, and disseminated.

It is not allowed to ask for or post your own or other people’s private, personally identifiable information on the platform, including but not limited to: phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, employer’s information, relatives, etc.

Community Guidelines

English Habitat is a private space, and its content and features are accessible only to registered members. Members agree to abide by the English Habitat Community Guidelines. The guidelines explain the rules associated with membership, including how it can be terminated if abused.

Use of the platform by minors

The use of English Habitat by minors (those below the age of 18 years) is subject to the consent of their parent or guardian. Parents or guardians who consent to their children’s use of English Habitat should communicate with their children about their online safety, and the potential risks they face.

Minors below the age of 13 are not permitted to register as a member on English Habitat.

Termination

English Habitat is a private space, and its content and features are accessible only to registered members. A membership account can be terminated if it is abused, including through violation of the Community Guidelines (see above).

English Habitat may terminate your access to the platform without cause or notice. This may result in the forfeiture and destruction of all information associated with your account.

All provisions of this agreement which, by their nature, survive termination of the platform shall survive termination, including ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity, and limitations of liability.

English Habitat may discontinue its products and services at any time without cause or notice.

Notification of changes

English Habitat reserves the right to change these terms from time to time as it sees fit. Your continued use of the platform signifies your acceptance of any adjustment to these terms.

If there are any significant changes to the Terms of Use or the Privacy Policy, these will be announced on the home page and on other key pages on the platform. You are advised to re-visit the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy on a regular basis.
